Scaniam prizes: odds, quantities, consolation prizes and what happens when stock runs out

Updated Oct 18, 2026

In Scaniam, you set each booth game prize's odds (a weight) and its quantity, or leave the quantity empty for an unlimited prize. Each award uses one unit, and when a prize runs out Scaniam stops awarding it while the other prizes keep going. A consolation prize is given only when a player would otherwise get no prize, and every attendee keeps their gift code whatever the game result.

What Scaniam prizes are and when to use them

Scaniam is gamified event lead capture and booth CRM for event marketers. A Scaniam booth game can award prizes: items you hand over at the booth, or voucher codes shown on the attendee's phone. You set the prizes for each event in Game Setup, and every booth game uses the same prize list.

Each prize has a label, a weight that sets its odds, and a quantity. The quantity is how many of that item you have. When it reaches zero, the prize is out of stock and Scaniam stops awarding it.

The prize is separate from the gift. Every attendee who finishes the survey gets a gift code and a barcode, whatever happens in the game. A game prize is extra, and Scaniam shows staff exactly what was won when they scan the code at the Gift Station or the Sales Station.

Use prizes when you want the booth game to give something real: a T-shirt for some players, a sticker pack for more, a gift card code for a few. Use the quantity to make sure you never promise more items than you brought.

The rules

Rule Detail
Weight (odds) Each prize has a Weight (probability), a whole number. A higher weight means the prize is more likely. Each prize shows its chance as a percentage of the prizes drawn by weight.
Spin the Wheel slices Every prize gets an equal slice on the wheel, whatever its weight. The size of a slice is not its chance. Out-of-stock prizes stay on the wheel.
Quantity Quantity is how many of the item exist. Each award of that prize uses one unit.
Unlimited prizes An empty Quantity means unlimited. An unlimited prize never runs out. Check each example prize's Quantity: some start unlimited.
Out of stock When a prize's quantity reaches zero, Scaniam stops awarding it to players. Players win only prizes still in stock. Two players never both get the last unit. Leaderboard rank prizes are always given to the winning ranks (see below).
Saving the game Clicking Save game config never refills prizes already handed out. Changing a Quantity moves what is left by the difference: 50 to 60 adds 10 units, 50 to 40 removes 10. Switching a prize from unlimited back to a Quantity starts it at that Quantity.
Consolation prize A prize with Consolation prize turned on is given only when a player would otherwise get no prize: every other prize is out of stock, or the score is below every score tier. It is never drawn by weight next to the other prizes. The exception is a leaderboard contest with Also give every player an instant gift, which gives it to every player. It can have a Quantity and can run out too.
Counts as a win Turn Counts as a win off for a "Try again" slice. It is drawn by weight like any prize, but the player gets no "You won!" screen and staff see that there is no prize to hand over.
Voucher codes A prize with Delivery set to Digital voucher code gives each player who wins it one unique code from a list you upload. Leaderboard ranks use a code too. Its stock is the number of codes not yet given out. It has no Quantity field.
Guaranteed prizes With Distribution set to First N players, guaranteed, every player wins that prize until its Quantity runs out, then the weighted odds take over. A guaranteed prize needs a Quantity. With several, the one higher in the list goes first.
Score tiers In a skill game, each prize wins from a score you set. If a player's prize is out of stock, Scaniam gives the next lower tier that has stock, then the consolation prize. It never gives a higher tier.
One play per person Each response plays the booth game once. A returning attendee sees the result they already got.
Test runs Plays from Test Survey or the survey builder's Preview use the real odds but never use stock or voucher codes. A voucher prize shows a sample code instead.
Host Station Entries that staff fill at the Host Station skip the game, so they never win a prize or use stock.
Deleted responses Deleting a response does not return its prize to stock. A voucher code given to it stays used.

How odds and the winning journey work

Which games are luck games and which are skill games is on Scaniam booth games. In Scaniam luck games, Spin the Wheel and Scratch Card, the prize is drawn by weight from the prizes in stock (guaranteed prizes go first). The attendee sees the wheel stop on, or the card reveal, the prize Scaniam awarded.

Scaniam skill games (Flow Free, Quiz / Trivia, Image Quiz, Memory Match and Trick or Treat) also have a Winning journey with three choices:

  • Everyone wins (the default, except Trick or Treat, which starts on Score tiers): every player who finishes gets a prize drawn by weight, whatever the score. In Flow Free, a player who gives up or runs out of time can get only the consolation prize, never a real prize.
  • Score tiers: better scores win better prizes. For each winning prize you set the score it wins at ... or more. Quiz / Trivia and Image Quiz scores are a percentage of the quiz points. Flow Free, Memory Match and Trick or Treat scores are points.
  • Leaderboard contest: the top ranks win the winning prizes in list order, given when you click Resolve & Award. Each rank uses one unit of its prize's Quantity, and a voucher prize uses one of your uploaded codes. A rank still gets its prize when none is left: the winners list then says "Out of stock when awarded", or "No code left for this prize - send one by hand" for a voucher prize. Also give every player an instant gift gives every player the consolation prize while it is in stock. Ranks, closing and the winners list are on Scaniam leaderboard contests.

Under Score tiers, the prize's weight field reads Awarded by score. Under Score tiers and Leaderboard contest, Distribution is hidden because the score or rank decides the prize. Quantity still applies under Score tiers.

What happens if...

If ... Then ...
A prize runs out during the event Scaniam stops awarding it. The other prizes keep going at their own odds. The prize still shows on the wheel.
Every prize is out of stock and no consolation prize is left The player gets no prize. In Spin the Wheel and Scratch Card, Scaniam skips the wheel or card and shows "All the game prizes have been given out. Show your gift code at the booth." In a skill game, the player plays and then gets their gift code. The gift code still works.
You bring more of a prize mid-event Raise its Quantity by the number of new items and click Save game config. Scaniam adds that many units to what is left.
A player's score tier prize is out of stock Scaniam gives the next lower tier that has stock, then the consolation prize. A player never gets a better prize than their score earned.
A player gets the consolation prize Their screen does not show "You won!". Staff see the consolation prize when they scan the gift code at the Gift Station or the Sales Station.
A score is below every tier and there is no consolation prize The player gets no prize. Game Setup warns, for example: "Players below 50% get nothing - add a consolation prize."
A voucher prize has no codes uploaded Scaniam does not award it to players. A leaderboard rank still gets it at Resolve & Award, and the winners list says "No code left for this prize - send one by hand". The Voucher Codes card on the event dashboard says "No codes uploaded yet. This prize is not awarded until you upload codes."
The voucher codes run out Scaniam stops awarding that prize to players (leaderboard ranks still get it, see above). The card shows "Running low" first, then "Pool empty - upload more codes or this prize stops awarding." Uploading more codes starts it again.
The game plays before the survey and the attendee leaves without answering The prize was awarded when they played, so it used one unit of stock.
An attendee comes back to the survey They see the result they already got. They do not play again and use no more stock.
Your workspace is over its monthly response limit Attendees still play and win as normal. The response is saved but locked until it is paid for. See pricing.
You turn a test response into a real one with Restore as real Its prize is kept only if that prize is still in stock now. Otherwise Scaniam drops the prize and tells you how many were dropped.

Voucher codes

A Scaniam voucher code is a one-time code from a list you upload, such as a gift card or discount code. Each player who wins a voucher prize gets one unique code, and each code is given out once. A leaderboard rank prize uses a code too, when you click Resolve & Award, while codes are left.

The winner sees the code on their phone under Your voucher code, with Copy code and, when you add one, a link to redeem it. They still get their gift code and barcode. Staff who scan the barcode see that the voucher is already on the attendee's phone.

For a leaderboard rank, the winners list on the contest card shows each rank's code. How the winner gets it is on Scaniam leaderboard contests.

You upload codes as a CSV file: one code per row, a code column, and an optional url column for the redeem link. For one shared link, put it on every row. Scaniam skips blank rows, duplicate codes in the file and codes already uploaded, so you can upload the same file again safely. Uploaded codes cannot be removed. The Voucher Codes card on the event dashboard shows how many codes have been claimed.

A consolation prize cannot be a voucher prize: turning on Consolation prize sets the delivery back to physical.

What it is not

  • Scaniam is not a prize draw or raffle tool. Every game result is decided when the attendee plays.
  • A top prize is not unlimited unless you leave its Quantity empty. Set a Quantity on every prize you have a fixed number of.
  • A score tier never falls up. If the player's prize is out of stock, they get a lower prize or the consolation prize, never a better one.
  • A wheel slice's size is not its chance. Every slice is the same size; the weight sets the odds.
  • A consolation prize is not a weighted "Try again" slice. For a slice that is drawn by weight but does not count as a win, add an ordinary prize and turn Counts as a win off.

How to set up prizes

  1. Open your event from Events.
  2. Click Event Settings, then Game Setup.
  3. Turn on the switch next to Game. To pick a different game, click Change under Game.
  4. Under Prizes, replace the example prizes, or click Add Prize to add one.
  5. Enter a Prize label. Optionally set a Color, a Photo and a Description (shown on win screen).
  6. Set Weight (probability) and Quantity. Leave Quantity empty only for an unlimited prize.
  7. Choose Delivery: Physical (booth handoff) or Digital voucher code.
  8. Choose Distribution: Limited stock (luck of the draw) or First N players, guaranteed.
  9. For a "Try again" slice, turn Counts as a win off. For the prize given only when nothing else can be, turn Consolation prize on.
  10. For a skill game, pick a Winning journey. For Score tiers, set the score each prize wins at ... or more, then check the summary line under the tiers.
  11. Click Save game config. The button shows Saved! when the prizes are live.

If Scaniam cannot save, it names the problem: "Add a prize label.", "Set a Quantity. With no limit, every player wins this prize." for a guaranteed prize, or "Add at least one prize, or switch the game off."

To add voucher codes:

  1. In Game Setup, set the prize's Delivery to Digital voucher code and click Save game config.
  2. Open the prize and click Sample CSV to see the format.
  3. Under Upload codes (CSV), choose your file, then click Upload.
  4. Check the result line: "Added N. Pool now has N codes (N unclaimed)."

Upload codes after the event exists. In the new event wizard, a voucher prize shows "Create the event first, then upload codes in game settings."

To try the game without using stock: on the event dashboard, click Test Survey. Test plays use the real odds but take no stock and no voucher codes. Clear them with Clear test data.

Duplicating an event

When you duplicate a Scaniam event, the copy gets the same prizes, weights, quantities and winning journey. Every physical prize starts at its full Quantity, whatever was left in the original. Voucher codes are not copied: upload new codes for the copy, or the voucher prize is not awarded. A leaderboard contest's close time is not copied.

Which plans

Booth games, prizes, voucher codes and score tiers are on every Scaniam plan, including Free. Plans differ by monthly responses: see pricing.

Common questions

Can an attendee play again?

No. Each Scaniam response plays the booth game once. An attendee who comes back to the survey sees the result they already got and does not play again.

Can I collect entries all day and draw a winner later?

No. Scaniam does not run prize draws or raffles. Every game result is decided the moment the attendee plays. The only prizes decided later are leaderboard contest prizes. You close the contest, then click Resolve & Award to give them by rank.

Is prize stock reset when I duplicate an event?

The copy gets the same prizes, quantities and winning journey, and every physical prize starts at its full quantity. Voucher codes are not copied, so you upload new codes for the copy.

Does everyone win something?

Every attendee who finishes the survey gets a gift code. Whether they also win a game prize depends on the prizes you set. With a consolation prize in stock, a player who would otherwise get no prize gets the consolation prize.
