Scaniam leaderboard contests: ranking players, closing the contest and awarding rank prizes

Updated Oct 18, 2026

A Scaniam leaderboard contest ranks the players of a skill booth game by their score or time, and the top ranks you choose (1 to 20) win the winning prizes in your prize-list order. Players win nothing from the contest while they play. You close the contest, at a set time or with Close Early, then click Resolve & Award to give each winning rank its prize. Each person has one entry, and a tie goes to the earlier finish.

What a leaderboard contest is and when to use it

A Scaniam leaderboard contest is a way to give prizes in a skill booth game: the best players win. It is one of the three choices under Winning journey in Game Setup, next to Everyone wins and Score tiers. Pick it when you want competition at the booth, a live leaderboard on a screen, and a few bigger prizes for the top players instead of a prize for everyone.

Every finished play is entered with the player's score or time while the contest is open. Players do not win a contest prize when they play. You close the contest, at a set time or by hand, then click Resolve & Award. Scaniam then gives the top ranks their prizes in the order of your prize list and lists the winners on the event dashboard.

A contest works in Flow Free, Quiz / Trivia, Image Quiz, Memory Match and Trick or Treat. Each event runs one leaderboard contest. To give every player something as well, turn on Also give every player an instant gift, which hands out your consolation prize while it is in stock.

The gift code is separate. Every attendee who finishes the survey still gets their gift code and barcode, whatever their rank.

The rules

Rule Detail
Which games Only games that give a score or a time show Winning journey: Flow Free, Quiz / Trivia, Image Quiz, Memory Match and Trick or Treat. Spin the Wheel and Scratch Card cannot run a contest.
One contest per event Picking Leaderboard contest sets up one contest, named "Leaderboard".
Ranked by Set by the game, not changed here. Most games rank by Highest score: the higher score wins. Memory Match ranks by Best overall (time + tries) or Fastest time, chosen with Leaderboard ranking under Options. With Fastest time, the lower time wins. Each game's page explains its score.
How many win? 1 to 20 winning ranks. The panel shows "Top N ranks win a prize".
Rank prizes The prizes that count as a win (not consolation prizes, and Counts as a win on) go to the ranks in prize-list order: the first one to 1st place, the second to 2nd place, and so on. Each winning rank needs its own winning prize. To give the same item to two ranks, add it twice.
Fewer prizes than ranks Game Setup warns: "Only N winning prizes configured. Add prizes to fill all M ranks."
When does it close? Close manually (open until you click Close Early) or At a set time (a date and time in your own time zone).
Instant gift Also give every player an instant gift gives every player who finishes your consolation prize while it is in stock. It needs a consolation prize; without one it reads "Add a consolation prize to enable this".
One entry per person Each person plays once and has one entry.
Ties A tie goes to the earlier finish.
Not entered Plays after the contest closes or after Resolve & Award, a Flow Free give-up or time-out, and test plays from Test Survey or the survey builder's Preview.
Names shown First names only, never last names, emails or phone numbers. A player shows as "Attendee" when their response is locked over your monthly limit or has no first name yet.
Rank prizes take stock A rank prize with a Quantity uses one unit. A voucher prize uses one of your uploaded codes. An unlimited prize uses nothing.
Resolve once A contest can be resolved once.
Prize list changes Contest prizes and the ranking follow the live prize list each time you click Save game config, so a renamed prize or a new Leaderboard ranking reaches the contest.
Distribution Hidden on prizes under Leaderboard contest, because rank decides who wins.

What attendees and staff see

A Scaniam leaderboard contest player plays the game as usual. A player with no instant prize then sees "You're on the leaderboard - score N. Winners are announced when the contest closes." and goes on to their gift code. With Also give every player an instant gift on, the player sees their gift instead.

With the game before the survey, the player shows as "Attendee" on the leaderboard until they send the survey. Then their first name appears.

At the Gift Station and the Sales Station, staff see "Leaderboard prize: not decided yet" for a contest player until you click Resolve & Award. After it, a winner shows their rank prize, for example "Game prize: Drone". When the winner also got the instant gift, staff see two lines: the gift, then "Leaderboard prize: Drone", so they hand over both. Every other player shows "Played the game: no prize", or only their instant gift.

On the event dashboard, the response's prize column, the response details and the CSV Prize Won column show the rank prize, joined to the instant gift when there is one ("Candy + Drone").

The contest card on the event dashboard

The Scaniam contest card sits under Active Contests & Raffles on the event dashboard while the game is on. Its header shows "Leaderboard", the number of winning ranks and the ranking, TV View, and a badge: Open, Closed or Resolved.

While the contest is open, the card shows the live Entries count, a Deadline countdown such as "Closes in 2h 15m" (only with At a set time), a Leaderboard preview of the top 3 with "+N more", and Close Early. Close Early asks "Close contest now?" with Yes, close and Cancel.

Once the contest is closed, Resolve & Award appears (reload the page if it has not appeared yet). It asks "Award prizes to top N?" with Confirm and Cancel. When there are fewer players than ranks, the card says "Only N entries for M prizes - X slots will go unfilled." Ranks are never filled by anyone who did not enter.

After Resolve & Award, the card shows "N winners awarded." and a winners list: rank, full name, email and prize. Notes under a prize:

  • "Code: X" for a voucher prize.
  • "No code left for this prize - send one by hand" when no uploaded code was left.
  • "Out of stock when awarded" when the prize's Quantity had run out. The rank still gets the prize.
  • A locked winner shows as "Attendee" with "Contact shown once this response is paid for."

A winner's voucher code also appears on their phone, under Your voucher code, when they open their survey link again, but only when they won no prize by playing. Otherwise send them the code from the winners list. Scaniam does not message winners.

The contest TV view

TV View on the contest card, or the link under the Leaderboard contest panel in Game Setup, opens a full-screen leaderboard page for a TV or laptop at your booth. The address ends in /leaderboard. Anyone with the link can open it.

The Scaniam contest TV view shows the top 10 players with their first names and scores (or times in seconds for Fastest time), a "Prizes" list by rank ("1st: X, 2nd: Y"), and your event QR code labelled "Scan to win". With a close time, it counts down "Closes in" and then shows "Final standings". With no players yet, it says "Be the first on the board!". Without a contest it says "No leaderboard to show yet." If the screen loses its connection, it shows "Offline - reconnecting".

A published booth screen can also show the contest in a leaderboard block. See the booth screen.

What happens if...

If ... Then ...
A player finishes after the contest closed The play is not entered. The player still gets their gift code.
A Flow Free player gives up or runs out of time The play is not entered on the leaderboard. They still get their gift code.
Two players have the same score or time The player who finished first ranks higher.
Fewer people played than there are winning ranks Only the players who entered win. The card warns before you resolve: "Only N entries for M prizes - X slots will go unfilled."
No one entered The card says "No one has entered this contest yet." and Resolve & Award cannot be clicked.
You want to award prizes before the set close time Resolve & Award appears only after the contest closes. Use Close Early to close it now.
A rank prize ran out The rank still gets it. The winners list says "Out of stock when awarded", so you can sort it out with the winner.
A voucher rank prize has no codes left The rank still gets it. The winners list says "No code left for this prize - send one by hand".
A winner's response is over your monthly limit They still rank and win. They show as "Attendee", and their contact details show once the response is paid for. See pricing.
A winner's response is deleted later The winners list shows "Deleted". The prize given stays given.
You duplicate the event The copy gets the contest settings without the close time, so it starts as Close manually with no entries.

What it is not

  • A Scaniam leaderboard contest is not a raffle or a prize draw. Ranks come from scores or times, and winners are picked when you click Resolve & Award. The heading Active Contests & Raffles mentions raffles, but no raffle can be set up.
  • It is not automatic. Closing the contest does not pick winners: you click Resolve & Award.
  • It is not a way to play more than once. Each person plays once and has one entry.

Common questions

Can I run a leaderboard contest with Spin the Wheel or Scratch Card?

No. A Scaniam leaderboard contest needs a game that gives a score or a time. Flow Free, Quiz / Trivia, Image Quiz, Memory Match and Trick or Treat can run one. Spin the Wheel and Scratch Card are luck games and cannot.

Does Scaniam pick the winners automatically when the contest closes?

No. Closing the contest stops new entries. Winners are picked when you click Resolve & Award on the contest card, and that can be done once.

Does Scaniam tell the winners they won?

No. Scaniam does not message winners. The contest card lists each winner with their rank, name, email and prize, so you can announce them at the booth or contact them.

Can an attendee play again to improve their rank?

No. Each person plays the booth game once, so each person has one entry on the leaderboard.
