Scaniam Flow Free: the puzzle, time limit, scores and prizes

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Scaniam Flow Free is a skill game. The attendee connects each pair of colored dots on a grid, without crossing paths, until every cell is filled. A solved puzzle scores 100 points minus 1 point for every second taken, never less than 1, and a give-up or time-out scores 0 and can get only the consolation prize. You pick Easy (4x4), Medium (5x5) or Hard (6x6), an optional time limit of 10 to 300 seconds, and how prizes are won.

What Scaniam Flow Free is and when to use it

Scaniam Flow Free is a booth game where the attendee solves a grid puzzle on their own phone. Scaniam is gamified event lead capture and booth CRM for event marketers. Flow Free is a skill game: the attendee plays first, then Scaniam checks the result and decides the prize. A faster solve scores higher, so you can reward speed with score tiers or a leaderboard contest, or give every solver a prize.

The puzzle plays before or after your survey, like every Scaniam booth game. Whatever happens in the puzzle, an attendee who sends the survey gets a gift code and a barcode to show at your booth. The shared game rules, such as one play per person, the game intro and test runs, are on Scaniam booth games.

Good for: tech events, gaming audiences and booths where people stay a few minutes. Not for: fast walk-up booths where attendees have only a few seconds, or audiences who may find a puzzle frustrating. For the pitch, see Flow Free.

The rules

Rule Detail
The puzzle The grid has pairs of colored dots. The player draws a path between the two dots of each color. Paths cannot cross, and every cell must be filled to solve it. The phone shows "Connect each color pair - paths can't cross - fill every cell to win."
Drawing Drag from a dot, or from a path already drawn, into the next cell up, down, left or right. There are no diagonal moves. Dragging back over your own path shortens it. A path cannot enter another color's path or dot. It works by touch and with a mouse.
Header A timer (mm:ss) and the progress, for example "2/4 pairs · 11/16 cells". Under it, a badge with the difficulty: "Easy 4×4", "Medium 5×5" or "Hard 6×6".
Score for a solve 100 points minus 1 point for every whole second taken, and never less than 1. A solve in 25 seconds scores 75. A solve after 99 seconds or more scores 1.
Score for a give-up or time-out 0 points.
Give-ups and prizes A give-up or time-out can get only your consolation prize, or nothing if you set none. In a leaderboard contest, only when Also give every player an instant gift is on. It is never entered in a leaderboard contest.
Results are checked Scaniam checks that a result is genuine before a prize is given.
Where the score shows On their phone, the player sees their score only in a leaderboard contest, when they have no instant prize: "You're on the leaderboard - score N. Winners are announced when the contest closes." You see it as "Game score" in the response drawer and in the Game Score column of the responses CSV.

Flow Free settings

Open Game Setup, then Options. The box Flow Free settings has three settings. All three apply to the attendee's puzzle.

Setting What it does
Difficulty "Grid size: easy 4×4, medium 5×5, hard 6×6". Pick Easy (4×4), Medium (5×5) or Hard (6×6). Default Easy. A bigger grid has more color pairs and takes longer.
Time limit "Seconds to solve. 0 = no limit." 0 means no limit (the default). Otherwise 10 to 300 seconds. A number outside 0 to 300 is set to the nearest limit when you leave the box. When you save, a limit above 0 is rounded to whole seconds and raised to 10 if it is lower.
Show timer "Display elapsed time (or countdown if a time limit is set)". On by default. With a time limit the timer counts down and turns red in the last 10 seconds. Without one it counts up.

Prizes: the winning journey

Flow Free has the Winning journey panel with three choices. Prize odds, quantities and the consolation prize work as on Scaniam prizes and stock.

Everyone wins (the default). Every player who solves the puzzle gets a prize drawn from your prize list by its odds. A give-up or time-out gets only the consolation prize, or nothing.

Score tiers. Better scores win better prizes. Each winning prize gets a row "wins at N pts or more", from 1 to 100 points. No tier can start at 0. When you pick Score tiers, Scaniam fills in starting scores from 80 down to 30 points (for example 80 and 30 for two prizes), and a read-back line shows each range, for example "70 to 100 pts: Hoodie · 40 to 69 pts: T-Shirt · below 40 pts: Sticker". To set a tier by time, subtract the seconds from 100: "wins at 70 pts or more" means solved within 30 seconds. If a tier's prize runs out, the next tier down is given, then the consolation prize. Prize weights are hidden under Score tiers ("Awarded by score").

Leaderboard contest. Players compete and the top ranks win. Ranked by shows Highest score ("Set by the game type"). On equal points, the earlier finish ranks higher. Give-ups and time-outs are never entered. Also give every player an instant gift gives give-ups the consolation prize too. See Scaniam leaderboard contests.

On a Scaniam booth screen, Flow Free scores can feed a "Top players today" leaderboard.

What the attendee sees

Game after the survey. After Submit & Play Game, the puzzle opens. When the last cell fills, "Solved!" shows on the grid, then "Checking result…". The attendee lands on their gift code screen: "You won!" with the prize, "You're all done!" with "Your prize:" for a consolation prize, or "You're all done!" alone.

Game before the survey. The puzzle opens first. A player who gets a prize sees the result screen and taps Continue to Survey. A player with no prize goes straight to the survey. The gift code shows after Submit.

Reset clears every path but keeps the same puzzle, and the clock keeps running. Give Up asks "Give up? You can't play again." with Keep playing and Yes, give up. Both buttons are off once the puzzle is solved or time is up.

What happens if...

If ... Then ...
The player taps Give Up, then Yes, give up The game ends with 0 points. The player can get only your consolation prize, or nothing if you set none. In a leaderboard contest, only when Also give every player an instant gift is on. They are not entered in a leaderboard contest.
The player taps Give Up, then Keep playing The puzzle carries on. The clock did not stop while the question showed.
The time limit runs out "Time's Up" shows on the grid. It counts as a give-up: 0 points.
Show timer is off and a time limit is set No countdown shows, but "Time's Up" still comes when the time runs out.
The player taps Reset All paths are cleared. The puzzle and the clock stay the same.
The player solves it slowly It is still a solve, worth at least 1 point. Under Everyone wins they get a prize from your list while one is in stock. Under Score tiers they may get only the lowest tier or the consolation prize.
Two players solve in the same number of seconds They have the same points. In a leaderboard contest the earlier finish ranks higher.
A score tier's prize runs out The next tier down is given, then the consolation prize, then nothing.
You change the difficulty during the event Attendees who open the page after the change get the new grid.
The result cannot be confirmed The attendee sees "We couldn't confirm your game result. Show your gift code at the booth and staff will check." Their gift code still works.
