Scaniam Spin the Wheel is a luck game. Scaniam picks the attendee's prize by the odds you set, and the wheel on their phone spins by itself and stops on that prize. Every prize is one slice of the same size whatever its odds, and you can set the spin from 2 to 10 seconds and show or hide prize names on the slices.
What Scaniam Spin the Wheel is and when to use it
Scaniam Spin the Wheel is a booth game where a prize wheel spins on the attendee's own phone and stops on their prize. Scaniam is gamified event lead capture and booth CRM for event marketers. Spin the Wheel is a luck game: Scaniam decides the prize by the odds you set, and the wheel shows it. There is nothing for the attendee to do or get better at, and the phone cannot choose its own prize.
The wheel plays before or after your survey, like every Scaniam booth game. Whatever the wheel lands on, an attendee who sends the survey gets a gift code and a barcode to show at your booth. The shared game rules, such as one play per person, the game intro and test runs, are on Scaniam booth games.
Good for: busy booths where people play in a few seconds, and prize lists with a few big prizes and many small ones. Not for: events where you want players to compete or show what they know. Use a skill game for that. For the pitch, see Spin the Wheel.
The rules
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Luck game | Scaniam picks the prize by your odds. The attendee does not tap anything to spin. |
| Spins by itself | The wheel starts a moment after it appears. While it turns, the phone shows "Good luck...". It stops with the prize under the pointer at the top. |
| One slice per prize | Every prize in your list is one slice. All slices are the same size, whatever their odds. |
| Slice order | Slices go clockwise from the top in the order of your prize list. |
| Everything is on the wheel | Out-of-stock prizes, the consolation prize and "Try again" slices all show on the wheel. |
| Odds | Each prize's Weight (probability) sets how often it comes up ("Higher = more likely"). The % beside each prize in Game Setup is its share of the spins while every prize is in stock. A consolation prize has no %: it is given only when nothing else can be. |
| Slice color | Each slice uses the prize's Color (pick a mid-tone). |
| Labels | Show labels on wheel is on by default. With it on, each slice shows the prize name. Long names are cut short with "...". Labels get smaller when there are many prizes. |
| Spin duration | Spin duration sets how long the wheel spins: 2 to 10 seconds, 4.5 by default. A number outside the range is set to the nearest limit when you leave the field. |
| Prize photos | A prize's Photo is not shown on the wheel or on the attendee's result screen. It is for the booth screen. |
| No winning journey | Spin the Wheel has no score, so it has no Winning journey, no score tiers and no leaderboard contest. |
What the attendee sees
Game after the survey. After Submit & Play Game, the phone shows "You earned a game!" and "Thanks for filling in the survey. Play to see what you get!" above the wheel. When the wheel stops, the attendee goes straight to their gift code screen:
- A winning prize: a trophy, "You won!", the prize name, its description and confetti.
- A consolation prize: "You're all done!" and "Your prize:" with the prize name.
- A "Try again" slice: "You're all done!" only.
Game before the survey. The phone shows "Play to Win!" and "Spin the Wheel - see what prize awaits". When the wheel stops, a result screen shows "You won!" with confetti, "Your prize" for a consolation prize, or "Better luck next time" for a "Try again" slice. The attendee taps Continue to Survey. A winner then sees "You won: [prize]! Fill in your details to claim." above the survey.
In both orders the gift code and barcode show at the end. A voucher prize also shows "Your voucher code" with Copy code. See Scaniam prizes and stock.
What happens if...
| If ... | Then ... |
|---|---|
| A prize runs out | It stays on the wheel, but Scaniam stops awarding it, so the wheel never stops on it again. The other prizes keep going. |
| Every prize is out of stock and no consolation prize is left | The wheel is skipped. The attendee sees "All the game prizes have been given out. Show your gift code at the booth." Their gift code still works. |
| The wheel stops on a "Try again" slice | There is no "You won!" screen and no confetti. The attendee still gets their gift code, and staff see there is nothing to hand over. |
| Only the consolation prize is left in stock | Every spin stops on the consolation prize, and the attendee sees its name as their prize. |
| You have an unlimited "Try again" slice and a consolation prize | The consolation prize is given only when nothing else can be. An unlimited "Try again" slice can always be drawn, so the consolation prize is never given. Give the "Try again" slice a Quantity, or remove the consolation prize. |
| The attendee closes or reloads the page during the spin | They keep the result of that play. The page reopens on their gift code with that prize, or on the survey when the game came first. The wheel does not spin again. |
| You change the prize list while attendees have the page open | The wheel still stops on the prize Scaniam awarded. |
| Show labels on wheel is off | The slices are color only. The prize name shows on the next screen. |
| A prize name is long | It is cut short with "..." on the wheel. The full name shows on the result screen. |
| Two prizes have the same color | If they sit side by side, they look like one slice. Give each prize its own Color. |
| You want the top prize to be rare | Give it a low weight. Its slice stays the same size as the others. |
The Library preview
In Library, then Games, the Spin the Wheel card shows a small wheel. Click Preview to open a live preview with demo prizes: AirPods, T-Shirt, Sticker Pack and Try Again. Click Spin! to spin it and Reset to start again. The preview lands on a random demo slice. It does not use odds, it does not use your prizes, and nothing is saved. Attendees never see a Spin! button: their wheel spins by itself. Click Use in Event to create an event with Spin the Wheel.

Common questions
Does the attendee tap a button to spin the wheel?
No. In Scaniam Spin the Wheel the wheel spins by itself a moment after it appears on the attendee's phone, then stops on their prize. Only the Library preview has a Spin! button.
Does a bigger prize weight make its slice bigger?
No. Every prize is one slice of the same size. The weight changes how often a prize comes up, not how it looks on the wheel.
Does a prize that ran out disappear from the wheel?
No. It stays on the wheel, but Scaniam no longer awards it, so the wheel never stops on it again.
Can the attendee spin again to get a better prize?
No. Each attendee plays once. Closing or reloading the page does not spin again or change the prize.
Does Spin the Wheel have a leaderboard or score tiers?
No. Spin the Wheel has no score, so it has no Winning journey. Every spin is decided by the prize odds you set.
